Subsea cabling to be rolled out from new Northumberland plant
UP to £130m is to be spent in Northumberland in creating a new subsea cable manufacturing facility which is expected to create and safeguard hundreds of jobs.
JDR Cable Systems, part of the TFK Group, is behind the development on land to the north of the former Blyth Power Station in Cambois and were delighted to see their ambitious plans backed by Northumberland County Council this summer.
As well as the factory, which will extend to almost 600,000 sq ft, the plans incorporate ancillary offices and outdoor cable storage.
Construction begins this year on the major project with a 2024 opening planned.
The development will create 207 jobs on completion and safeguard 270 jobs at JDR’s existing facilities.
Further stages of the development could result in more than 400 staff working at the site, with supplied products complementing JDR’s existing capacity provided by the company’s Hartlepool and Littleport manufacturing centres.
